Jeep

Products Used/Details   •   Project Photos

This guy used green LED strips to light up the underside of his jeep.  They make the jeep look awesome at night and can even be left on when parked because they run for hours off of the Jeep's 12V battery.

For the jeep pictured, he used about 13 feet of our green waterproof IP68 flex strip.  It was cut into 5 sections, with 2 sections on each side of the jeep, one on the back, one in the front under the bumper, and a short section above the grill.  The sections were all connected together with 2-3 foot jumper wire soldered onto the end of the strips (and then covered with waterproof silicon).  On the inside of the jeep he chose to use 4 green SMD modules, placing 2 under the dash and one behind each seat.

The LED lights were then direct wired to 2 toggle switches placed inside the jeep- one operating the outside lights one for the inside lights.  Another option for lighting control would be one of our PWM Dimmers or Keychain remote control.  If you are going to use RGB strips we recommend our Audio RF Keychain Remote as it has a built in Mic and can make the colors change to the beat of the music.

12V Green Flexible LED Strip IP68 Green LED strips were great because this jeep was green (and the guy with the blue jeep used blue LED strips).  However, you can use any solid color or RGB strips.
22-2 Wire Since this is only single color strip it only needed 2 wires in the cable (Red + and Black -).
Mounting While the waterproof strips come with self stick mounts, we don't recommend them for automotive applications as they will not hold up under the stress of the road.  We recommend that you use zip ties and attach the flex strips to the frame (or if you don't have anything to attach it to, you can string up a piece of stiff wire, rod, fiber glass fence post or driveway markers or even a good nylon rope and zip tie the flex strip to that).
Connectors After you cut the strips, we recommend soldering a short length of flexible wire on and then covering the connection with silicone and heat shrink tubing.  You can then use our waterproof butt connectors to join the strips and wires together.  If you do not feel comfortable soldering the connections, you can always send us a note with the lengths you need and we can make them for you for a small fee).
Controller/Dimmer
For single color LED strips, you can direct wire to the toggle switches or you could use our PWM Dimmers or Keychain remote control instead.  If you are going to use RGB strips we recommend our Audio RF Remote as it has a built in Mic and can make the colors change to the beat of the music.  You could also just use one of our IR Controllers.
Power Supply As our 12V strips are designed for 12V use, you don't need a power supply because you can simply run it off your battery (we recommend you use an inline fuse in the 2-5 Amp range as close to the battery as possible.  For use on semi-trucks you can use our 24V strips.
