if you have really long runs or are having trouble with weak DMX signals or if you want to help protect expensive controllers from high voltage spikes coming in on the DMX line (this unit will reduce the chance of a spike damaging the controller but it is not a isolator so there is still a chance large spikes could pass threw it)
